Edisto Beach was the destination for anglers and shag dancers who participated in this year’s Edisto Beach Fish & Shag Festival & King Mackerel Tournament. The final tournament of the SKA Division 3 series in South Carolina brought boats from SC, NC and Ga. this year to Bay Creek Park in Edisto Beach, as well as over 60 arts & crafts vendors to the Fish & Shag Festival sponsored by the Edisto Chamber and the Town of Edisto Beach. 

The weather was perfect and the ocean flat, as 50 boats headed offshore, all competing for the top spot on Edisto Beach. Including the 2010 Edisto Beach Champion, Brian Baxter and Team Sperry. This year however, the winning fish came from the north, with Stuart Ballard and team Tailwalker coming from Georgetown, SC with their 29.28 King Mackerel. Which just beat out the 28.92 lb. king mackerel that Eren Bracewell, with team Eren’s Addiciton, weighed in earlier during the weigh-in. Over 450 lbs. of fish were weighed in this year. But more importantly, all the fish caught were donated to the Lowcountry Food Bank. You can view all the results online, by visiting www.buckspizzakingfish.com. 

Whether you came to participate in the tournament or just stroll around the park enjoying the 50+ arts & crafts vendors, there was something for the entire family. Barrier Island Marine had a number of boats on display, numerous games for the kids, vendors, great food and live music all day. After the awards were handed out Saturday night, the shag dancers came from all around to participate in Edisto’s largest shag contest. The Catalina’s kept everyone dancing and the stars shined, as people from all over enjoyed a night out on Edisto Beach.
